A female suicide bomber died Sunday evening after the Person Borne Improvised Explosive Device (PBIED) exploded while on her body. This was disclosed in a statement from Nigeria Army Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani K Usman.
The suicide bomber was approaching a checkpoint around Kara Cattle Market in Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State, North East Nigeria when she was ordered to stop by troops on sentry duty. Col. Usman said.
After refusing to heed the order from the troops, she was fired at and the explosive device she was carrying exploded, killing her at the spot and wounding two of the soldiers and a civilian at the checkpoint. Read the statement. The injured were treated immediately and are out of danger.
The Colonel also disclosed that the Army was in possession of information indicating that Boko Haram terrorists were now disguising themselves as insane men or women in order to gain access to locations without being detected. This is common in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State which has been the epicentre of the 6 yearlong insurgency.
There is been heightened security across the country in Nigeria, especially previously targeted places by Boko Haram, during the period Muslims are celebrating Eid al-Adha, also known as the “Feast of Sacrifice”.
